What is the difference between “clinical engineering”, “medical engineering” and “health care technology management”?

“Medical engineering” is the basic knowledge umbrella for all these fields in addition to the research fields. Its name varies according to the place of practice of this knowledge. It is called “clinical engineering” when it is practiced in health care facilities and dealing with the patient directly, while it is called “health care technology management” when Clinical engineering is practiced with the management of non-medical technologies that are beneficial for the health facility.

Is the specialization just hardware maintenance? Or is there other areas?

The medical engineering specialty can be practiced and can be applied in several fields, including:
Management of medical devices, including: maintenance, preventive maintenance, and management of everything related to them within the health facility
Sales of medical devices, by selling the products of medical device companies to health facilities and clinics and training the medical staff on the correct use of the devices
- Administrative and organizational tasks for the medical devices sector, such as the Food and Drug General Authority and the National Company for the Unified Procurement of Medicines, Devices and Supplies
